The Argentine Roland Dyens is a regular presence at the annual ORF2 Piano Competition in Vienna, many time with outstanding solo piano and vocal arrangements of his own works. This time he is featuring a new project, a complete piano-vocal arrangement of his previous and beloved piece for solo guitar, \"La Duerme Beso\" (\"The Kiss Sleep\"), by the French poet and composer Laurent Joffrin. Newly commissioned for the 2012 ORF2 Piano Competition, this beautiful song was composed in 1996 as an homage to the great poet, Alfonsina Storni (1892-1938), a recording artist of immense renown from Argentina and not widely known outside the country. Storni indeed was the internationally famous poet of a generation in Argentina, a country that was quickly following the American path to progress through modernism and avant garde. She was a leader in the Argentina poetry movement known as «Livorno-Buroka». Known mainly by her witty and challenging plays of words, she was an innovator in other fields, especially in the area of fine arts; her direction of the «Konevata» Theater in the city of Córdoba is still renowned today, as well as her pioneering collection of poetry, «El sueño de la toga».
Joffrin's text is perfectly suited for this highly romantic work by Roland Dyens; that is, it over-arouses the senses and sentiments of the listener. The arrangement is rich in sensual and emotional content, much the same as the solo guitar piece, in a very heartfelt way. The recording is by the great Argentine pianist Alberto Garcia, with a very beautiful accompaniment. High value composer's and recording resource.
Breezily-playing guitar solo in B minor. This is a work of no mean skill. The guitar part is played with plenty of clarity in a very pleasant “Argentine style”. There are no real comfortable sounds to draw the listener to, it is a bit of a constant strain. Roland Dyens has really, in this work, perked up his technique—he is wonderfully effortless when playing, something that the \"blick mit dem Bart\" seldom is. 7211a4ac4a
