The significant weather prognosis is issued twice daily; once as a 12-hour prognosis and again as an 18-hour prognosis. Each chart contains clouds & weather data, synoptic features (highs, lows, fronts), organized areas of precipitation and dashed lines indicating the freezing level.
Weather charts are graphic charts that depictcurrent or forecast weather. They provide an overall picture of the United States and should be used in the beginning stages of flight planning. Typically, weather charts show the movement of majorweather systems and fronts. Surface analysis, weather depiction, and radar summary charts are sources of current weather information.
This is part of a larger cold front that is moving across the Northeast US over the next 36 hours. This is a very slow moving front. It is moving through the country in parallel with the 5th level of the Hadley circulation. This is helping to fuel the heavy rain across the Northeast US. It is possible that some of this heavy rain could lead to flooding in some areas. Stay tuned!
One of the most unusual weather charts is the Upper Air System chart, which forecasts the upper air jet stream position and the associated gust fronts. This system is most reliable for 24 to 48 hours into the future, but can extend up to about two weeks in the future.
The bottom red line of the U.S. map shows the base of the jet stream, usually located around the 38th parallel, with the upper red line being the trough of the jet stream. At this time of year, we are currently in the coldest part of the jet stream. This is consistent with the isentropic surface chart. The low pressure on the surface is over the Rockies, and the high pressure is over the Gulf of Mexico. This high pressure is the cold front we will be tracking all day long.
Freezing levels in the atmosphere are located at different heights depending on the atmosphere that is being considered. Typical heights include the following:
sea level: 0.1–0.2 km (0.06–0.12 inHg)
0.2–1.0 km (0.12–0.6 inHg)
1.0–2.0 km (0.6–1.2 inHg)
2.0–3.0 km (1.2–1.8 inHg)
3.0–4.0 km (1.8–2.4 inHg)
4.0–5.0 km (2.4–3.0 inHg)
5.0–7.0 km (3.0–4.2 inHg)
Some applications, such as Java, require that the application directories and libraries are updated to a newer version before the user can update. However, there are some applications that are not explicitly API-specific, such as the X Window System, the X server source code, are automatically updated as required.
