I found a very interesting article about CPU mining and the involved physics. It seems that CPU mining was somehow related to CPU stealing, that is, the Linux kernel (when dealing with CPU stealing) could have a look at the position of other CPUs etc. to deduce the frequency. This, of course, was never intended, but a funny side effect. Now, with Bitcoin, since the algorithm does not take that into account, there's just a lack of CPUs to mine on a specific block of time. Perhaps it is less of a problem now, though. Anyway, the article is interesting and provides a nice overview of the subject.
Falafel is just a regular Google guy. He really likes computers and anime, but he's an introvert with lots of free time. His only focus right now is Minecraft server management, whether it is running it or building things. 99% of his time is spent on gaming, so when he's not on the computer, he's probably asleep. Whether in game or out, you can usually find him hanging out in #minecraft-wayland on the freenode IRC network. d2c66b5586
